Factory application and test of regenerated positive precursor materials for waste lithium battery

With the widespread use of lithium batteries in 3C, automotive and energy storage applications, and the rising awareness of green energy and environmental protection, Taiwan’s sales of electric locomotives have increased substantially in the past ten years. The domestic cumulative sales have exceeded 400,000 units. The life cycle is about 5-8 years, and the number of replacements will far exceed the number of 3C batteries. The first wave of waste lithium batteries will usher in 2025. Therefore, it is urgent to establish a complete recycling model and actively replace waste lithium batteries. The valuable metal materials inside are recycled. The goal of this project is to build a domestic waste lithium battery resource to regenerate positive electrode precursor raw materials for the application and verification of the actual plant. Through the operation of the project, investigate and visit six domestic processing companies to understand the recycling situation and target the recycling of two domestic lithium batteries. Recycled materials are sampled and analyzed, and the extraction technology of cobalt sulfate, which is the positive electrode material of waste lithium battery regenerating through the design and establishment, is verified. The recycled material black powder processed by the waste lithium battery recycling plant is processed into cobalt sulfate through the wet processing process. For chemical raw materials, the project goal of cobalt sulfate> 20wt%, nickel content <2wt% and impurities (iron aluminum copper plastic) <8wt% was completed. In addition, a small-scale wet process demonstration was built. The maximum batch processing capacity of the machine is 20 liters of cobalt sulfate aqueous solution, and it has been tested to process 6 kilograms of black powder (30 kilograms of regenerated materials provided by the processing plant). At present, 3.1 kilograms of cobalt sulfate have been produced. Small wet processing equipment has been established. It is more conducive to industry promotion and accurate estimation of material yield and economic benefit evaluation.
